I posted a reply long ago - it was quite hard-hitting on Berry. It somehow hasn't shown up until now - wonder if the editors "balance" the pro- and anti- immigrant letters :mad:
BTW this Berry guy seems to be in the know of everything happening on this site. I hope at least now those blowhards among us who insist of by-the-minute updates and "where is my 20$" questions appreciate why the core members don't give updates on these forums. If you are so keen on updates, get off your backsides and pick up that darn phone !!!
The problem of contacting media with "stories" is that you don't want people who are just hanging by a thread; just trying to stay in status and having all sorts of hardship because they want to stay. It feeds into the fact that there are a lot of people here which the country doesn't need. Discussing layoffs or threats of layoffs or employer abusing, etc., feeds into the perception from an outside person that there are too many people here not doing specialized work that an American is not able to do.
Regarding Berry. I haven't gone to programmersguild web-site in a long time but the point that they seem to always bring up which seems to really bother them is that an American lost their job after training an h-1b person who was a cheaper option or an American lost their job because they had to train an L-1 worker who would then take the job offshore. He also points to h-1b companies who don't pay very much (information taken from LCA's which is public information).
Fortunately for the skilled immigrants; many members of congress/senate are business leaders themselves. Everyday there is a merger and job elimintions where one person has to train another who is getting their job cut. After all when Bank One merged with JP Morgan, there were a lot of people who had to train others and the trainer eventually lost their job. However, we all know that what is listed on the LCA; in no way has any reality to the total compensation that a person is getting paid. If people are working on ratio which most people do convert to; their billing rate on the low end would be $50 ($100,000 per year) which would probably work out to $80,000. However, the LCA might only show a salary of $50K (people take per diems as the rest or save it for a rainy day).

Accountability. Ok great, accountability is a pretty good concept. However I think the OP is targeting the wrong people here.
Do we even dare to hold the CIS/DOS accountable for their wishful manipulation of PDs? These guys can't even give us information that's there in their own systems.
Did we raise our voice when H1Bs (an arch which all of us have passed through) were being demonized by the media and politicians?
So we are not holding the people who have been the biggest beneficiaries of our money accountable, why hold a volunteer group, who are nothing more than regular people like us with families and personal issues accountable for trying to fix something that's broken.
Shoot in the city I live in, it's like the Richard Pryor paraphrase "I see brown people"

Also, if our fate is still so tied up with 12+ millions illegals, doesn't that mean that we failed to make our case, even with so much media coverage, lobbying and our personal efforts to call the law makers. Could another explanation be that lawmakers have all but refised to treat us with dignity we deserved as an educated, law abiding, tax paying citizens contributing to the society. I believe that we didn't fail and we tried what we could but still lawmakers refuse to act on our casue, may be they are implying something without explicitly saying it ?

You see, just to explain using an analogy, Microsoft is working to get H-1b numbers increased long before Immigration Voice started. If Microsoft has not been able to get Congress to increase H-1B numbers, does it mean that Microsoft is no longer an effective corporation? Likewise, Immigration Voice has made significant progress but due to the political climate and statistical discussion about the undocumented, which of�course is different but an important issue, our provisions are clubbed in the comprehensive bill. If it would have been any other year when Congress was not considering the issue of undocumented or comprehensive immigration reform, advocacy effort of Immigration Voice would have definitely translated all our provisions into law six months back.

Most of the groups and companies have stopped pushing for temporary relief because any kind of temporary relief or interim relief chips away support from CIR and the offices of Senate and House Leadership along with other proponents of CIR have made it clear that any immigration relief has to be a part of CIR and not outside of it. Other companies/coalitions have stopped pushing for temporary H-1B increase as they do not want to be in the bad books of committee chairmen and the leadership offices by trying to sneak temporary relief that divides the supporters of CIR. Leadership wants support for CIR and want all sides to wait for CIR. And not doing so and trying to get interim relief before CIR would put them in bad books of Senate and House leadership, which no one wants coz if CIR fails, then after CIR, these offices will not co-operate with any group that tried to take away support from CIR. So it would be counter-productive politically to do things that take away good stuff from CIR. Also, if you think that any effort in the final week could help in anyway, then let me to share with you that most provisions and their language are decided much in advance and last minute efforts almost never yield any result on the Hill."

I understand that you guys are frustrated but I did not open this thread to make empty noise. I have written to six different organisations and ACLJ only gave me a reply that they would be unable to process our per courntry quota lawsuit. There are thousands of federal court immigration lawyers in the country who would do this lawsuit albeit with more money than these non profit organisations. If any of you guys want to make a difference in your lives and lives of others pls co-ordinate this event of contacting various immigration lawyers.

Under the Fees section, it stated that if you filed your I485 on or after July 2007, and you paid the I485 fees, then no fees is required. Does that mean that I don't have to pay for the $305 for my advanced parole?
My I485 was received sept 2007, and I paid for the I485 fees, offcourse. This is something that I'm not too sure.
The filers who ever filed in July 2007 to August 15 2007 need to pay Advance parole money also.

I just called and spoke to a staff member at Lamar Smith's office. Apparently a lot of calls are being made :D. She knew why I was calling before I could tell her. I was told that the Rep. has not made a public stand on these bills yet. I told her that I would like the Representative to support these bills if and when they come to the floor.

So I have trickled into 152 tonight. I thought I'd try my hand at campaigning at some local places and managed 3! It seemed a lot harder than I imagined, I think I need to work on my introduction and smile ;) All three folks looked scared and suspicious of me but atleast they signed! Not giving up hope though! I have some others in the works via some good friends and I am going to try and tap more immigration law firms in SF. I am still pledging 200 and hope for more!! Any tips on campaigning to strangers, and I will be set! Thanks guys.

The updates are provided periodically on forums from IV core. We are currently working on the House side for pushing SKIL forward. There are a few things missing in SKIL bill that we would like to get introduced. Mainly its the 3-year extensions of EAD and AP and 3- year ext of H1 for labor applicants that is missing.
We are also trying to assess of SKIL in house is gonig to go forward, and in the event it doesnt, what other bills can be vehicles for putting our provisions like the S 1932 style.
We try not to restrict free voice and opinion from members on forums however, if it gets downright nasty we will edit posts and censor. But in principle we try to avoid it as much as possible.

I know IV is doing its best and there are other groups fighting for HR 5882.
But honestly, what are the chances for this bill to succeed this year (before election)?
100% or 75% or 50% or 25% or 0%
Ron Gotcher predicts that none of the individual bills may pass this year.
And also that EB3 I may not move forward even next year!
I am not sure how many EB3 (I) volunteers are there in IV (who are really focussed). Are they getting nothing? The prediction is that EB3 I may go back to Nov 2001 and stay there for a while (or may be for the rest of next year).
Is the efforts of EB3 (I) volunteers being exploited (indirectly, of course)? What are they fighting for?
Here are some of my own personal thoughts:
How can one tell a percentage number for something to pass? What kind of data can we base our calculations on?
Who said EB3 India will not forward next year? Did DOS say that? An individual lawyer is not Dept. Of State. I would like to see a written proof from DOS saying this so that we can plan ahead.
There were many naysayers for the July 2007 bulletin. But IV was able to get it current again. So stop believing in predictions and believe in yourself.
I believe it is immigrants more than anyone who will benefit the most from the success of IV's efforts. Thus it is in our interest to make IV successful.
Everyone is free to take part in IV campaigns. Nobody is being 'exploited'. However, if we had a more massive effort for admin fixes, we could have seen better results. With only around 5K letters (and that too a lot of anonymous ones) you cannot expect something to happen quickly. If you are trying to convey a plight of hundreds of thousands that you need hundreds of thousands of letters.
Likewise if you need these bills to move, we cannot expect a couple hundred calls to bring a bill on the floor.
IV is IV members. It is what each IV member decides to do that decides the fate of any campaign. The contributions received during the campaign also decides how much we can invest in our lobbyists. During the past 2 months we were able to collect only $16656 (refer this thread (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18790)). You can do your math and figure how much we can lobby when we have opposition that can spend much more.
IV can be successful only when its members want it to be.

Can you send multiple applications in the same package.
Coz. my attorney gave me a tracking number and there are almost 4 names in the reference section of the Fedex Online Tracking System.
As long as they are separated inside with rubber bands and cover sheets, this is OK. This is very typical of how most law firms do it. This is actually covered in tips on how to assemble your packet. You are fine.
Don't worry. Take Relax (something someone I know used to say :) )
