It is unethical of AF to blame bad weather. You need to differentiate here - turbulence is okay, thunderstorms?? what the heck.. why would a commercial airlines fly into a thunderstorm
Commercial airlines fly between 25,000 ft and 40,000 ft. Airlines generally take risks for profits. I know it. Some airlines like United are ultra sensitive to turbulence. Some fly right through turbulence. And sometimes I feel some pilots are plain incompetent, they have no control over aircraft during the storm.
I have personally taken 500+ flights, almost 2 every week. And I can say, I get really nervous when turbulence or strong clouds are present. You are one second away from the big jolt or swing. A lot of times, it has been a roller coaster like ride. Now I would enjoy that once in a while. Sometimes I have seen big aircrafts like Boeing 757-300 series, flex, you see forward portion of aircraft going up and tail portion going down. But its required so that aircraft does not split up mid air. It can be a nasty thing for someone seated in the rear. Always always wear seat belt during turbulence, if it gets severe, you will hit the head on the ceiling. The turbulence during take off and landing is usually more risky as aircraft is closer to ground and can not afford to lose altitude. If it is at a higher altitude, aircraft can lose some altitude, due to "air pockets" and still be ok.

While we are at discussing participation, a question I heard at DC comes to my mind. A member ( anil_sap?) asked another Texan member ( forgot name) - 'What takes you to become an Active member?'. To which my friend answered - 'Isn't he active alredy. He is here'.
That made me think - is being active a nebulous concept. Who's is the real active member of IV? The Core and near-core that strategize, plan , co-ordinate and conduct the business? The guys subscribed to monthly payment but missed DC? Guys who were at DC but not monthly contributors? Guys who were there all 4 days? Guys who visited for a day? "Lunch-Break" agitators? Who is 'active' among these will depend on whom you ask!
The following portion is in humor. Don't take it in bad spirit.

is UNLIKELY to pass at least in its current form. Public hospitals, underserved area clinics, Universities are not Google and Oracle!!! They'll go under if they have to pay 5000 $ for H1Bs. People probably don't have the faintest idea under what kind of financial strain these are. There will be exemptions for universities and non-profit organizations.
Not only the 5K filing fee , One have to do newspaper advertisement like PERM the cost of lawyer fee and I read somewhere One year extension for H1b beyond 6yrs since I140 will be out of the picture. :eek:

Does anyone know the process of how USCIS updates 485 application, once 140 gets approved after 485 is filed (considering one files 485 with 140 pending receipt)?
Do we have to do anything in order to update USCIS regarding 140/485 once 140 is approved?

hang in there buddy, as others have already suggested just wait for the notice and file MTR. tough 10-15 days but after all this is over you will forget about it. I was in a similar state when I got a RFE on 140.
Hey guys
Just received email from CRIS regarding I-485 denial notice for both me and my wife.
I used AC21 after 9 months of filing I-485. My I-140 was approved before even filing I-485 in July fiasco.
My attorney promptly sent AC-21 and G-28 and i did see LUD on my and my wife's I-485 after that.
My previous company informed me sometime ago that they are going to revoke I-140 and probably they did and i am assuming that's what triggered this.
This is certainly a big damm mistake they did even after sending AC-21 docs and G-28.

Just talked to a USCIS customer representative
my application is still not in the system. My application reached USCIS in June 27th. I told her that it reached on June 21st....I think I could give it a try on July 12th...
She also said I will get a response(Receipt Notice or the application sent back) in 4 weeks time.

I know there are many out there who are snickering in their cubicles looking at the pictures of the rally and thinking "Look at these idiots, they think Congress will pass SKIL bill because they walked 1.2 miles with some placards and banners".
Well, to all skeptics ...time will tell where stupidity lies.

On a lighter note, I did watch sausages being made, and I can't eat them anymore.
There are uglier things than sausages being made. For example, when Bernie Sanders gave a 30 minute speech to increase H1B fees and make H1B program useless, he brought a big chart and the whole enchilada to try to prove that H1B depresses wages.
However, in the starting part of his speech, he said he supports the bill.
The bill brings in 200,000 guest-workers each year (it was 400,000 before Bingaman amendment). However, according to him, that is just fine. When guest-workers come to US in numbers like 200,000 then they dont depress wages of the lowest income group in America. However, when hi-tech workers come here they depress wages.
This is the kind of logic from people like Bernie Sanders and Co. that is uglier than watching sausages being made. Watching sausages being made might hurt your eyes, but this kind of logic hurts your head and can damage your brain's neurons.

I have no problem with IV. I enjoy this forum and I really liked the that they did the rally last year and the flower campaign. I would like to do something about this whole situation (see my idea for The Two Cents Campaign (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24962)). I just have problems parting with money :) without knowing what I'll get.

It was made possible for people like me who contributed, and the rally would have not happened if it were for 2 cents people like you who want to see the balance sheet and EPS (earning per share) :p before moving your a$$. Its not about throwing money at a problem, its about seeing these guys in action and knowing from experience their passion, energy and willingness to work on my issues. I did not look down up SW industry but loath these cheap desi companies who really raped this H1 visa program and the people standing on the streets of washington are the byproducts of that rape.There simply are not enough visa numbers. Here is the deal, the idea of state chapters is for grass roots organization. We can't reach out to everyone if we don't have remote hubs, it is as simple as that. We recently revived the WA state chapter and I keep sending emails, one or two respond, the rest are silent readers. However they did join the group and we are now 30+ members. Now, we plan to have a conference call and then we are planning to get together within 2 weeks to meet all of these members. No one is forced, but we would send out and invitation to every member. Then we come out with certain agendas and action items that fall within IV goals. Like one of the main things is to meet local law makers within each state for follow up. This is best done at state level. So I understand the part that you care confused is nothing is happening and you just keep writing. I know the feeling but can you get everyone together, can you get to meet them one by one. Trust me, once you get the ball rolling, before you know, you will have a big strong chapter that makes it easier to pass targeted messages and so on. When IV events are held in a national level, information and action items can be distributed to state chapter leaders who can then follow up.
But yes, it is hard work in the beginning to get every one on board, trust me, I am fighting the same battle, but hard work pays off!

Inspite of this rumor, they sent us urgent email, that they are working overnight this weekend and if possible they wud like to dispatch our 485 papers before saturday noon for Monday am delivery at uscis. We were impressed. They even didnt asked for the attorney fees in this moment , we just submitted the filing fees.

I can understand the quality and committment of lawyers can make a huge difference especially in this unprecendented situation where all EB categories are made current now and now there is a rumour that it would be retrogressed back probably sometime next week with a new visa bulletin.
A lot of lawyers who are really committed and sincere to their client's clause: Getting them Green Card, are working overnight and over the weekend also so that their client can file I-485 ASAP and on the other hand few law firms are acting as slackers and not even responding to their client's emails.
Anyway, I am interested in knowing everyone's experience ( good or bad ) with law-firms and their recommendation.
My Own Case:-> I work for a multibillion dollar telecom company and joined this company almost 15 mos ago with a promise that they would start my GC immediately. Till Now, they have not yet file my labor. Their lawfirm is Larrabee http://www.larrabee.com/ in sanDiego. I don't have much experience with them as my application is still in my company's internal queue but based on the basis of my little experience, I would certainly not recommend them

They have to abolish the H1B programme completely since they can no longer prevent its abuse. They need to have a new process in place in which scrutiny occurs for each application of a foreign worker!
Another option is to spread the words how Americans treat H1B workers, esp. those educated ones. Once a realistic view about coming to America as a legal foreign worker is known, I bet a lot of people will not come. Who is going to waste 10 years of their life living in a "near-slave" work environment and at the end still apply to Canadian residency? :D
Once nobody, esp. those well-educated, high-tech, skill workers, comes, they will see the impact of the whole American immigration saga. ;)
